Biography

Oleksandr Shymko is a contemporary Ukrainian composer, pianist and conductor. He was born on August 4, 1977, in Borshchiv (Ternopil region, Ukraine). In 2002, he graduated from the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music, earning a master's degree in musical arts with a specialization in composition. 


Oleksandr is one of his generation's most vibrant contemporary Ukrainian composers, known for his diverse projects across various styles and genres, ranging from modern acoustic chamber and symphonic classical music to electro-acoustic compositions in film and theater co-productions. With over 20 years of experience, he has created more than a hundred works that have captivated audiences across Europe and America with their emotional depth and rich musical symbolism. His artistic goal is to connect the listener with their own organic primeval emotional experience through his music.

Shymko is a regular participant in contemporary music festivals both in Ukraine and Europe. He is the organizer and author of numerous musical projects and has received many awards and honors. Since 2007, he has been the musical director of the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theater of Drama

(Kyiv, UA).
